Life in a library pt 1 - Attitude

The good thing about working in a library is that you get to meet all kinds of people. The bad thing about working in a library is that you get to meet all kinds of people! Generally most people are nice, friendly and polite but sometimes they are not so much. I had a customer the other day who insisted on shouting out to the staff when they needed help on the computer, which was every couple of minutes, or waving us over, like they were a roman emperor and we were their unwilling slaves.

Not only that but they were also rude and ungrateful. For all the help we gave them they never once said please or thank you. Obviously they never had a stern mother to raise them! Don’t get me wrong, I like helping people and I know that is part of my job. But a little politeness or gratitude is commonplace, not just grunts, mumbles of dissatisfaction and the occasional swear word!

Luckily most customers are not like this for which we are thankful but it just reminds me that there are all sorts of people out there. And it seems that most of them manage to find their way to our doors!
