Paul E Smith

Rated 5 stars by readers

★★★★★

Fantasy Author

Paul Smith was born in Cambridge and currently works in a library where he tries to pry people away from the computers to look at the lovely books instead.

He was introduced to the role playing game Dungeons and Dragons at an early age and has been obsessed with fantasy worlds ever since. Having written many roleplaying campaigns and read 'almost every fantasy book' he thought that he should get on with it and write his own fantasy novel.

His somewhat morbid fascination with crime dramas has led him to blend these passions together to create a 'forensic/fantasy' genre.

When not working or writing he spends time with his family or 'makes things out of leather', which he gives as ‘lovely gifts’ or wears them to dress up at Comic Cons.

'A Noble Murder' is his first novel in the Fragmented series.

Mystery books can sometimes leave me disappointed when the murder is too obvious or there’s a lack of twists and turns along the way. Paul Smith’s gradual reveal of clues throughout the story kept me gripped, and the twists along the way kept me thinking and intrigued throughout.

I also found myself fully invested in the characters and rooting for their success. Their struggles felt very human, and their victories truly satisfying. Additionally, the lively back-and-forth dialogue between Teelan and Drevin had me chuckling throughout and served as the perfect palate cleanser amidst the serious scenes as they progressed through the mystery, making it a fun and engaging read.

I have read mostly murder mysteries and other fiction but this is my first fantasy murder fiction book. Being an older person i have always thought fantasy books were for young people but i could not have been more wrong as i have thoroughly enjoyed this book and found it very hard to put down. The characters are very engaging, it's full of humour and i love the developing relationship between the characters and the way the story unfolds. I would recommend this book to anyone whatever their age and i will definitely buy the next book when it comes out.

Amazing first novel, really enjoyed the characters and was drawn into the plot straight away. I am not normally a quick reader but this kept a really good pace leaving me always eager to start the next chapter. Can’t wait for the second book to come out. Keep them coming!

I absolutely loved this book. From the first chapter I was hooked on the darkly humorous interplay between the main characters and became absorbed in the fantasy world Paul E Smith has so painstakingly created.
I really like how the characters are so well crafted: from the middle-aged and aching Drevin and the anti-social Teelan, to the spirited and feisty risk taker Cali. I loved them all.
I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys their fantasy and also to those who enjoy a good murder mystery. I can't wait to read the next book in the series from this up and coming fantasy author.

Wow! Excellent characters and plot. I very quickly was immersed in the story. I could not put it down! Following the author now ready for the sequel.
I could see this as a tv series as well. If you are a fan of lotr, the Witcher, last kingdom etc I believe you will thoroughly enjoy this book!

This book is a refreshing break from romance fantasy. It has complex characters and an ever evolving murder mystery plot. My favourite aspect of this book is the constantly changing dynamics between the characters. This is without a doubt the best fantasy action book I've ever read.
